Meet the Judges

This year, local artists served as judges and selected the winners of the Boulder St. Vrain Watershed Art Contest.

Barbara Dobbs: A landscape ecologist before becoming a full-time artist, Barbara’s art reflects her love of all nature and is on permanent display in the City of Boulder and has been accepted into national juried shows including the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Louisville’s National Fine Art Show and in Tubac, Arizona. Known for her bold vibrant stylized and abstract paintings, she paints the inner and outer light that radiates from all things, and her intention is to create art that inspires moves and nourishes those who view it.

Basia Christ: Basia began her fascination with art at two years of age when she drew a sun with a yellow crayon on paper. She uses a variety of media to create art which allows her to transcend the everyday of life to reach the higher regions of her imagination.

Catie Michel: Catie is an artist based in Denver, CO. Her background in field research and science communication grounds her creative work in observation and inquiry. She teaches science illustration at the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Butterfly Pavilion and is a volunteer bird bander for the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. As a devoted naturalist, she explores what, in nature, is capturing our attention, and what, in us, is looking back.

Katie Miller: Katie is a mother to a third grader, taught knitting, sewing, and woodworking for 10 years in Niwot, and currently teaches knitting and crocheting at a bi-monthly meetup. She grew up in Boulder, left for college, and for several years Katie travelled all over the country. While there are other very nice places, she found the Boulder area most agreeable and currently lives in Longmont.

Adriana Paola Palacios Luna: Adriana is the founder of Luna Cultura, and Luna Madre Inc. She is a Maker, a Textile and Mexican Folk artist, a social and environmental justice educator, storyteller, and mother of three. With Luna Cultura, Adriana addresses complex topics in a creative, fun, and community-oriented way.
